ROFUS

ROFUS is the Danish Gambling Authority’s register of self-excluded persons. 

If you wish to self-exclude temporarily or permanently from gambling in Denmark, you can register yourself voluntarily in ROFUS using NemID. 

 Keep in mind 

  • You cannot regret or cancel your registration
  • ROFUS covers all online gambling with a stake. ROFUS also covers all Danish land-based casinos
  • By registering, you consent to letting gambling operators handle your data, if you attempt to log into or create a new account
  • A registration in ROFUS is personal which means that you can only register yourself 
  • The Danish Gambling Authority makes reservations for any technical errors in ROFUS and thus cannot be held responsible for such occurrences

How does ROFUS work?

What is covered by ROFUS?

If you are registered in ROFUS, you exclude yourself from online gambling and all land-based casinos in Denmark. In this context, online gambling is betting and online casino gambling as e.g. poker, roulette, and gambling on gaming machines. 

Self-exclusion – for how long?

  • 24 hours
  • 1, 3, or 6 months
  • Permanent exclusion

You have the opportunity to take a 24-hour break from gambling or a temporary break of 1, 3, or 6 months. You also have the opportunity to self-exclude permanently. Temporary exclusions automatically expire when the period has run out on the exact time.  If you have chosen to self-exclude permanently, you can request the Danish Gambling Authority to have your registration cancelled one year after your registration at the earliest. To have your registration in ROFUS cancelled, you must write to the Danish Gambling Authority via our contact form and include the following information:

  • Your full name 
  • CPR number
  • The date of when you can request to have your registration in ROFUS cancelled

Please note that our caseworkers have up to five work days to handle a request of cancellation in ROFUS. You will receive a receipt in your e-Boks when your registration has been cancelled. 

Personal and confidential

A registration in ROFUS is personal which is why you can only register yourself. 

The Danish Gambling Authority handles your information confidentially. Only the gambling operators at which you have an account can see your registration in ROFUS. However, the gambling operators can only see your registration if you attempt to log into or create an account during your self-exclusion period. 

Marketing 

When you register in ROFUS, you have the opportunity to say “No thank you to marketing”. This way, you can avoid receiving gambling advertising from online gambling providers with a licence to provide gambling in Denmark while you are registered in ROFUS. If you choose to say “No thank you to marketing”, the gambling provider will see that you are registered in ROFUS when they send out advertising. By gambling advertising is meant any type of commercial contact via phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, or other information, that the gambling operator has on you. 

The above does not cover unaddressed mail and internet advertisements. “No thank you to marketing” is a voluntary arrangement for gambling providers and players. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that your gambling provider has chosen to use the arrangement. 

Frequently asked questions 

What is meant by permanent exclusion?

A permanent exclusion is by definition permanent. However, 1 year at the earliest, it is possible to request the Danish Gambling Authority to cancel the registration. If you attempt to log in to your account during your self-exclusion period, your account will be closed. Any possible deposit on your account must be paid to you when the account is closed. 

To have your registration in ROFUS cancelled, you must write to the Danish Gambling Authority via our contact form and include the following information:

  • Your full name
  • CPR number
  • The date of when, you can request to have your registration in ROFUS cancelled

You can see the date, if you log into ROFUS using your NemID.

Why must I use NemID to register in ROFUS?

You must use NemID when you register in ROFUS to ensure the highest possible level of security and to avoid fake registration and similar. It also means that only you can register yourself in ROFUS.

Can I be sure that nobody discovers my registration in ROFUS?

ROFUS is a secure register, which only a few employees at the Danish Gambling Authority have access to. The employees are only allowed to handle your data if you have consented to this in advance. The employees are subject to the duty of confidentiality and the regulations in the General Data Protection Regulation. 

Gambling operators are only allowed to control CPR numbers in ROFUS if you attempt to create a new account or log into an existing account. 

If you choose to say “No thank you to marketing”, gambling providers will see that you are registered in ROFUS when they send out marketing. “No thank you to marketing” is a voluntary arrangement for gambling providers and players. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that your gambling provider has chosen to use the arrangement.

What to do if I regret my registration in ROFUS?

A registration in ROFUS is binding and it is not possible to cancel or annul the registration. 

If you have excluded yourself temporarily, your registration will expire when the chosen period runs out at the exact time. If you have chosen to self-exclude permanently, you can request the Danish Gambling Authority to have your registration cancelled one year after your registration at the earliest by writing to the Danish Gambling Authority via our contact form.

What information must I send to the Danish Gambling Authority if I wish to cancel my permanent registration?

To have your permanent registration in ROFUS cancelled you must send the following information to the Danish Gambling Authority:

  • Your full name
  • CPR number
  • The date of when you can request to have your registration in ROFUS cancelled

Can I have the deposit from an account returned when I am registered in ROFUS?

If you have registered yourself permanently in ROFUS, the gambling operator must automatically close your account and pay out any deposit to you. If you have registered yourself temporarily, your account is temporarily deactivated. If you wish to have a deposit paid out, you must contact the gambling operator for more information. 

Exclusion from a particular gambling operator or a land-based casino

You can exclude yourself from a particular gambling operator on the operator’s own website. The exclusion can last for 24 hours, at least 30 days, or permanently. A permanent exclusion causes your account to be closed.

I am no longer registered in ROFUS but I cannot log into or create an account at a gambling provider with a licence in Denmark. What to do?

Contact the gambling provider in question, as a technical error may have occurred. 

I do not wish to self-exclude in ROFUS but I would like to check if my gambling can be problematic. What to do?

On their websites, gambling operators must refer to a “self-test for compulsive gambling”. You can also find the test on ROFUS.nu.
