Information to organisers of charity lotteries: Dispensation to postpone draws via a notary

20, Mar 2020

In light of the challenges posed by the current covid-19 situation, it is possible for organisers of charity lotteries with a licence from the Danish Gambling Authority to apply for approval to postpone the draw.

If you, the organiser, assess that you will be unable to perform the draw on the date planned due to the current covid-19 situation, you can request permission from the Danish Gambling Authority to postpone the draw.

You may request to postpone the draw for up to 3 weeks (21 days) after the original date of the draw.

The Danish Gambling Authority make a specific assessment of the individual request to postpone a draw.

Postponement of draw

If you would like to request a postponement of a draw, please do the following:

  • Send your written request for a postponement of the draw to the Danish Gambling Authority via our contact form: https://www.spillemyndigheden.dk/en/contact. Select ”Lotteries”.
  • In your request, please state the file number of the lottery or attach the licence from the Danish Gambling Authority and the new date of the draw booked at the notary office.
  • If possible, please attach documentation from the notary office of the cancellation of the planned draw.

Organisers are advised to book online a new appointment at a notary to ensure that the draw may be performed at a date as close as possible to the original date of the draw.

If the organiser assesses that the draw should be further postponed, a new written request must be sent to the Danish Gambling Authority, after which the case will be assessed.

In the event that the original date of the draw is postponed, the organiser is advised to clearly inform the participants of the lottery of the postponement, e.g. via a website, user interface or by direct contact to the participants. The new date of the draw should also appear clearly from the information.

The Danish Gambling Authority appreciate the challenges that organisers of charity lotteries face under the exceptional circumstances. Thus, we will strive to find practical solutions to the challenges that may arise.

The Danish Gambling Authority is of course available to answer any questions that may arise. We will endeavour to respond to your inquiries as soon as possible.

Take good care of yourself and each other.
