Ask the Danish Gambling Authority on Reddit
As part of the Danish Gambling Authority’s current campaign for the StopSpillet (StopGambling) helpline, one of our advisers will be available on the social platform Reddit for two days this week. The aim is to reach a target group that finds it difficult to ask for help.
The StopSpillet campaign includes, among other things, a 30-second film on social media, radio spots and banner ads on websites. These traditional channels are being supplemented by advertising on Reddit, and for the first time, the Danish Gambling Authority is also trying to be actively present in the online community where all content is user-generated and where many Danes go to seek information and discuss various topics.
An advisor from the StopSpillet helpline will be ready at the keyboard on Monday and Tuesday and, under the headline “AMA – Ask Me Anything”, will answer users’ questions about problem gambling and offer advice.
The idea of being on Reddit is an attempt to reach men aged 30–40, who are the primary audience for the current campaign. Research on inquiries to StopSpillet shows that men in this age group often find it harder to seek help when their gambling starts to become problematic.
On average, it takes around 2.5 years from the first concerns arise before players contact StopSpillet. The purpose of StopSpillet’s presence on Reddit is therefore to make it easier for players and relatives to reach out.
StopSpillet will be present in various forums (subreddits); r/Denmark, r/DkFinance and r/DKbrevkasse, and it is hoped that many Reddit users will take the opportunity to get advice from the counselor.
